A proposal has been made to modify the membership application process to require applicants to go
through a more thorough process while on the waiting list or between application submission and
voting. Intent is to provide familiarization with Club rules and procedures, and to allow the Club to
better assess applicants’ suitability for membership
As Stated in the Current Bylaws: Article IV, Section 2: All applications for membership shall be
presented to the Executive committee for an interview on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30PM,
with an application fee (amount to be determined annually), and must be sponsored by a member
present.
Proposed Change: Article IV, Section 2: All application forms for membership shall be presented to the
Executive Committee on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30PM. In a timely manner the applicants
will be interviewed by one or more members of the Executive Committee. At the time of the interview
the applicants will present their firearms permit for review and will pay the application fee (amount to
be determined annually). All applicants must be sponsored by a PFG member present at the interview.
During the interval between the interview and being voted on by the membership, the applicants will be
contacted by our liaison committee and brought to the club to go through an orientation and safety
evaluation process. This process will provide applicants with familiarization with Club rules and
procedures, and will provide the Club with an opportunity to assess the applicants’ suitability for
membership. The Executive Committee will determine the format of the orientation process. During this
orientation process, the Putnam Fish and Game Club reserve the right to reject an applicant with a
majority vote of the Executive Committee for any concerns that may arise.
A proposal has been made to modify the membership categories by defining the family membership
and eliminating the junior membership category.
As Stated in the Current Bylaws: Article IV, Section 1: Membership in the club, male or female persons
21 years of age and older, junior members 10 years through 20 years of age are eligible for membership
and shall not be discriminated against because of race, religion, or national background. All persons who
were members at the time of the original Incorporation in “1949” shall forever be considered as Charter
Members of the Corporation.
Proposed Change: Article IV, Section 1: All persons, 21 years of age and older, are eligible for
membership and shall not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion,
sex, disability. An individual membership confers Club privileges on the accepted applicant only. A family
membership confers Club privileges on the accepted applicant, spouse, and lineal descendants under
the age of 21. Lineal descendants must be supervised by the member or spouse when using the ranges,
and holders of family memberships accept responsibility for the actions of their lineal descendants when
on Club property. The Executive Committee has the right to make exemptions when presented with
situations that don’t fall exactly into these guidelines.
A proposal has been made to modify the Club’s guest policy to provide for removal of the limit on
guest visits, and to institute a fee per visit for guests:
As Stated in the Current Bylaws: Article VII, Section 1: Club privileges shall generally be available to the
membership only. Guests will be limited to two visits per year and must be accompanied by a member.
A member may escort one guest at the range with one loaded firearm between them. Guests do not
have hunting privileges at any time.
Proposed Change: Article VII, Section 1: Club privileges shall be generally available to the membership
only. Members may bring guests, with a maximum of two guests per visit. All guests must have a valid
handgun permit. Upon arrival, the member will have guests sign a waiver form and will pay a fee per
guest. The fee will be set by the Executive Committee. For range use, guests will be supervised by the
host member on a one-to-one basis. If a member brings two guests for a visit, only one may be shooting
at any given time. For skeet, guests may purchase clays at the member rate. Guests do not have
hunting privileges at any time.
These Bylay changes will be voted on at the July Membership meeting. Any questions or feedback, please feel free to contact any and all board members/trustees.
